    Thank you for your interest in the 2012 IBHS/AIAS Fortified Roof Design Competition!

    The design competition is intended to serve architecture and design students and professionals and is open to submissions from any country. Awards will not be provided to countries wherein it is illegal for US based organizations to do business. Winners from such countries will be recognized, but no prize monies will be awarded. Submissions can be the work of an individual or a group of up to 4 members. There is no registration fee for AIAS members or teams that have at least one AIAS member participating. If the individual(s) are not AIAS members, a registration fee of $10.00 is required. Payment can be made online at the competition website or in the form of a check/money order made out to the “AIAS” and mailed to:

    All information and materials needed to successfully participate in the competition are contained in this program document.There is no entry or submission fee required to participate in the competition for AIAS members. There is a $10.00 USD submission fee for non-members.

    Registrations must be completed through this Web site by 5:00 pm, Eastern Time, on Friday, June 1, 2012. Please keep a copy of the confirmation for your records as verification.

    PLEASE NOTE: If no one on your team is a member of the AIAS, a $10.00 USD registration fee is required for competition entrants.

Submission

Entries must be uploaded through this Web site by 5:00 pm, Eastern Time, on Friday, June 1, 2012. If the submission is from a team, all team members will have the ability to upload the digital files. Once the final submissions are uploaded no additional edits, uploads, or changes can be made. Upon upload of the final submission each student will receive a confirmation email notification.

Final Submission uploads must contain each of the following 3 individual files in a single (ZIP) folder not exceeding 20 MB:

  • Completed submission information cover page including all team members and faculty advisor, if applicable (PDF available soon)
  • Each of the four 20”X 20” boards. The boards should be compiled in one PDF file, each as separate pages. When saving the boards to a PDF file students should not use a resolution any higher than 150 dpi. The file should also be flattened and not include any layers
  • A copy of the design essay as a high resolution Portable Document Format (PDF) file

Design Boards and Essays should not include names of designer(s)/entrant(s), their institution, or faculty advisor. Use of these names on boards/essay may result in disqualification.

Please use the link below to submit your final design file (ZIP format not exceeding 20MB). Please name your submission file with your registration number (ex: 1234A.zip).

If you have lost your registration number, please email the AIAS at competitions@aias.org.

*Winning designers will be required to submit a digital package containing original files/images for use in competition publications and exhibit materials. All presentations must be suitable for black-and-white reproduction. Students may use color if desired, but must ensure that distinct colors will be readily distinguishable tones when reproduced in black-and-white.

The IBHS will receive the copyright and unlimited right for usage, presentation and manipulation of all submissions for any purpose. The competition participant will retain an unlimited license to present their work, and to generate future derivatives thereof in perpetuity.
IBHS Company Inc. has the right to use in any way they choose the schematic drawings of the contestants, with the understanding that the contestants retain the ability to present and show their submissions with unlimited license, and with the complete knowledge that students are not able to function in the capacity of a registered architect.
